Dear Colleagues and Members of the Lebanese Society of Cardiology,
It gives me great honor to stand before you in the coming two years and welcome you all to be active participants in the plan of developing the Lebanese Society of Cardiology to be a model in the region and an internationally renowned contributor to the field of cardiovascular medicine.
Dear members, when I was elected as the president to this great Society, I became aware of the challenges to uphold the legacy of excellence and leadership given by former presidents of this Society and the responsibility to embrace the vision which aspires for the highest standards in medicine and academic reaching.
In response to the distressing global and regional cardiovascular Pandemic, our future targets will focus on:
- Population-based interventions
- Quality of practice standardization, improvement and control to close gaps of care
- Joining global initiatives aimed at reducing the burden of heart attacks and stoke
Furthermore, our society has always been, and will remain, open and welcoming to the contribution of world acclaimed scientists/ leading field experts and executives from the World Health Organization, American College of Cardiology, European Society of Cardiology, and other regional societies. Moreover, we aim to further our collaborations with these bodies, and others, to share important new data on emerging strategies relevant to the early detection and treatment of the disease and build on their already existing capacities for the mutual benefit of our physicians and patients.
Last, we have learned from our previous president and his cabinet what is needed to best maintain the vision and aims of this society to build a healthy Lebanon. We truly appreciate their efforts, and the newly elected cabinet and I look forward to continuing on their path for this coming period guided by their experiences for a better future.
M. Samir Arnaout, MD, FESC, FACC
President, Lebanese Society of Cardiology
